Ingredients

  • 1-2 tbsp olive oil for tossing the beans
  • 1 lb fresh green beans trimmed and dried thoroughly
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt or to taste
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder optional, for extra flavor
  • 1/4 tsp crushed chili flakes optional, for spice
  • zest of 1 lemon lemon zest added after cooking for brightness

Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Mixing bowl
  • Tongs or spatula
  • Measuring spoons

Method

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 200°C (390°F) for about 3 minutes, allowing it to get nice and hot for even crisping.
  2. Wash and thoroughly dry the green beans, then trim off any tough or woody ends to ensure crispness.
  3. Place the green beans in a mixing bowl, then drizzle with olive oil and toss until they are evenly coated. This light coating helps them crisp up nicely.
  4. Add salt, garlic powder, and chili flakes to the bowl, then toss again to distribute the seasonings evenly across all the beans.
  5. Spread the seasoned green beans in a single layer inside the air fryer basket, making sure they aren’t overcrowded so hot air can circulate freely.
  6. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to promote even crisping and prevent sticking.
  7. Observe the beans for crispy edges and a slight char; if they aren’t quite crispy enough, add a couple more minutes of cooking time.
  8. Once done, transfer the green beans to a serving dish and sprinkle with lemon zest for a bright, fresh finish.
  9. Enjoy immediately for the best crunch, or serve with a squeeze of lemon for extra zest.

Notes

For extra flavor, toss with grated Parmesan or fresh herbs after roasting. Keep an eye on the beans to prevent burning, especially toward the end of cooking.
